Crumpet Shortage after Warburton's UK Factory Fire?

During a recent trip to Bonanza Food & Gift, I grabbed a package of Warburtons crumpets from the freezer. Upon check out, the owner mentioned that perhaps I should get two packets, as the recent factory fire may slow down shipments to Canada.

Hold the phone, what factory fire?

As it turns out, a fire broke out at Warburton's largest crumpet-making factory in early May....oh my! Luckily no one was hurt, but all of those precious crumpets up in flames - it's almost too much to think about.

Since the fire, Warburtons has assured its customers in the UK that there is no impending crumpet shortage, despite the fact that this particular factory in Brumley produces approximately two thirds of the 11 million crumpets annually - and a wide section of the factory is now shut down.

Perhaps there is no shortage in the UK, but the Bonanza shop keeper left me with the impression that it could be a months before they see any crumpet orders filled.

If you love your Warburtons crumpets, and they're still available in your local British grocery spot, perhaps grab an extra pack to pop in your freezer as you just never know when the supply chain will be fully restored.

Let's hope everything is back on track in Brumley soon!!
